Acoustic Drop Ceiling Installation

Suspended Ceilings That Keep Access — and Keep the Noise Down

A suspended ceiling is the right answer whenever you need the mechanicals above it to stay reachable — basements, offices, clinics, retail build-outs. Done well, it looks deliberate and quiets the room. Done poorly, it sags and telegraphs every out-of-level run.

Step by Step

Our Drop Ceiling Installation Process

A grid is only as good as the layout it starts from.

Finished acoustic tile grid with integrated lighting
  1. Contact us

Tell us the room dimensions, the ceiling height you’re working with, and what’s running overhead. Basements almost always have a low spot that drives the whole plan.

  2. On-site measurement and layout

We measure the space, locate ductwork, beams, and plumbing, and plan a grid layout that centers the tile pattern and keeps border tiles a sensible width. Layout is where drop ceilings are won or lost.

  3. Review the estimate

You get the tile selection, grid finish, height, lighting accommodations, and price in writing — including what happens where a duct forces a soffit.

  4. Choose tile and grid

We walk you through acoustic ratings, tile textures, moisture-resistant options for below-grade rooms, and grid colors so the finished ceiling matches the room’s purpose.

  5. Install the perimeter and grid

Wall angle goes up dead level, main runners and cross tees are hung to spec and squared. Level here is what stops a ceiling from looking subtly wrong.

  6. Set tile and integrate lighting

Tiles are cut cleanly at borders, and light fixtures, vents, and sprinkler heads are integrated into the grid rather than worked around.

  7. Final walkthrough

We check the grid for square and level with you, replace any tile that got handled roughly, and clean the space before we leave.

The Honest Version

Why Hire a Twin Cities Drop Ceiling Contractor?

Suspended ceilings look simple enough to hand to anyone. The parts that aren’t simple — low basement headroom, ductwork in the wrong place, keeping border tiles even across a room that isn’t square — are exactly the parts that determine whether the finished ceiling reads as intentional.

When you work with our team, here’s what you get:

  • High-quality craftsmanship, never from subcontractors.

Our own in-house employees complete every project. We invest in training our crews in trade technique, jobsite conduct and customer service, and we don’t hand your home to a rotating cast of subs.

  • Lasting results you will love.

We stand behind our work in writing. If something isn’t right after we’ve gone, we come back and correct it — no argument about whose responsibility it was.

  • Fair, transparent pricing.

Our standards are high and our pricing is straightforward. You get a written scope with the price attached, and options at different price points where they genuinely exist.

  • Local knowledge that matters here.

Minnesota’s climate is hard on buildings. Freeze-thaw cycles, humid summers and long heating seasons all change what holds up. We’ve worked in this metro since 2007 and it shapes what we recommend.

  • A reputation you can check yourself.

Good Questions

Acoustic Drop Ceilings — Common Questions

How much ceiling height do I lose?

Usually three to four inches below the lowest obstruction, though we can tighten that with low-clearance grid systems where headroom is critical. We’ll measure and tell you the exact number before you commit.

Can a drop ceiling go in a basement with low headroom?

Often, yes. It depends on your joist depth and what’s running below them. If a drop ceiling would leave the room uncomfortably tight, we’ll say so and talk through drywall or exposed-ceiling alternatives.

Do acoustic tiles actually reduce noise?

Meaningfully, yes — they absorb sound within the room and dampen transfer from the floor above. For serious sound isolation between levels, pair it with our soundproofing work.

Junior and his crew were great to work with on our office redesign. They got us our estimate same day and gave a great price. The hardworking crew got the job done faster than I expected, and it also came out perfectly. We will be using him and his team again in the future.

I hired Home Drywall and Painting to finish my three-car garage starting from bare studs, and they did an outstanding job. They handled insulation, full sheetrock installation, mudding and taping, and painting — all in-house. What normally would take multiple contractors was completed by one company, which made the process smooth and efficient.

After my first contractor jerked me around for 2 weeks with excuses, the team at Home Drywall & Painting became my Plan B. Jessica took my call, sent me a proposal and had me booked next day. Adam had his team dispatched and they finished in about 3.5 hours. They had one hiccup during install, but they resolved the issue and made it right. Everyone was respectful and polite. The end price was exactly what I was quoted. Happy to recommend.

They were very respectful of our home and our schedule, did an absolutely beautiful job — and communicated daily about what to expect. A plumbing water damage mishap to our finished lower level meant repairing the entire ceiling: skim, sand, re-texture, paint — plus removal and reinstallation of ceiling fans, a chandelier, can lights, speakers and vents. Gerid and the Home Drywall team also offered a very competitive price.
