Custom Drywall Work

Arches, Curves, Coffers, Niches and Architectural Details

Flat walls are the trade; shaped drywall is the craft. Archways, curved walls, coffered and tray ceilings, wall niches, floating soffits — these take flexible board, patient framing coordination, and finishing skills that keep a curve fair from every angle.

What This Covers

What’s Included

Every project starts with a free on-site estimate and a written scope. Here’s what custom drywall looks like when we do it:

To get started, use our online form or call (612) 816-5333.

  • Archways and curved openings

Radiused openings framed, hung with flexible board, and finished with flexible corner bead so the curve stays crack-free.

  • Coffered and tray ceilings

Layered ceiling details built square, level and crisp — the geometry only works if every line is true.

  • Niches, bulkheads and soffits

Recessed display niches, mechanical soffits that look intentional rather than apologetic, and clean bulkhead transitions.

  • Design collaboration

We work from your architect’s or designer’s drawings, or help you develop the detail from a photo you loved.

Good Questions

Custom Drywall — Common Questions

Can drywall really curve?

Yes — 1/4″ flexible board bends to surprisingly tight radii, and double layers build back the strength. Tighter curves use specialty products. The finishing is what keeps the curve looking fair rather than faceted.

Do custom details cost much more than flat walls?

They cost more per square foot because they’re slower, but a single archway or tray ceiling is often a modest line item that changes the whole feel of a room. We price each detail individually in the estimate.

Can you add a detail to an existing room?

Frequently, yes — a tray ceiling, a cased opening converted to an arch, a niche cut into a non-bearing wall. We’ll confirm what’s structural before cutting anything.

Junior and his crew were great to work with on our office redesign. They got us our estimate same day and gave a great price. The hardworking crew got the job done faster than I expected, and it also came out perfectly. We will be using him and his team again in the future.

I hired Home Drywall and Painting to finish my three-car garage starting from bare studs, and they did an outstanding job. They handled insulation, full sheetrock installation, mudding and taping, and painting — all in-house. What normally would take multiple contractors was completed by one company, which made the process smooth and efficient.

After my first contractor jerked me around for 2 weeks with excuses, the team at Home Drywall & Painting became my Plan B. Jessica took my call, sent me a proposal and had me booked next day. Adam had his team dispatched and they finished in about 3.5 hours. They had one hiccup during install, but they resolved the issue and made it right. Everyone was respectful and polite. The end price was exactly what I was quoted. Happy to recommend.

They were very respectful of our home and our schedule, did an absolutely beautiful job — and communicated daily about what to expect. A plumbing water damage mishap to our finished lower level meant repairing the entire ceiling: skim, sand, re-texture, paint — plus removal and reinstallation of ceiling fans, a chandelier, can lights, speakers and vents. Gerid and the Home Drywall team also offered a very competitive price.
