Spray Foam Insulation

Insulation and Air Barrier in a Single Application

Spray foam earns its price where nothing else works as well: rim joists, basement walls, cathedral ceilings and odd cavities where you need insulation and an air seal in one pass. Closed-cell foam delivers roughly R-6.5 per inch plus a vapor retarder — the right tool for the coldest corners of a Minnesota house.

What This Covers

What’s Included

Every project starts with a free on-site estimate and a written scope. Here’s what spray foam insulation looks like when we do it:

To get started, use our online form or call (612) 816-5333.

  • Rim joist foam

The classic Minnesota application — sealing the leaky band of framing at the top of your foundation that batt insulation handles badly.

  • Basement and foundation walls

Closed-cell foam against concrete, warm-side safe and moisture-tolerant, ready for framing and drywall by the same crew.

  • Cathedral and tight assemblies

High R-value in shallow cavities where fluffy insulation can’t reach the target.

  • Prep, masking and trimming

Overspray protection, foam trimmed flush where walls close over it, and thermal-barrier coverage where code requires it.

Good Questions

Spray Foam Insulation — Common Questions

Closed-cell or open-cell — which do I need?

In our climate, mostly closed-cell: higher R per inch, adds rigidity, and acts as a vapor retarder — which matters against rim joists and foundation walls. Open-cell has interior uses, but Minnesota’s cold-side condensation risk makes closed-cell the default recommendation.

Is spray foam safe in a home?

Yes, once cured — the off-gassing window is during and shortly after application, which is why the area is vacated and ventilated per the product spec. Cured foam is inert, and code-required thermal barriers cover it in living spaces.

Why does foam cost more than batts?

Material and equipment — but it’s doing two jobs. In a rim joist, foam replaces insulation plus meticulous air sealing that batts simply can’t match. Where batts do the job fine, we’ll quote batts.

Junior and his crew were great to work with on our office redesign. They got us our estimate same day and gave a great price. The hardworking crew got the job done faster than I expected, and it also came out perfectly. We will be using him and his team again in the future.

I hired Home Drywall and Painting to finish my three-car garage starting from bare studs, and they did an outstanding job. They handled insulation, full sheetrock installation, mudding and taping, and painting — all in-house. What normally would take multiple contractors was completed by one company, which made the process smooth and efficient.

After my first contractor jerked me around for 2 weeks with excuses, the team at Home Drywall & Painting became my Plan B. Jessica took my call, sent me a proposal and had me booked next day. Adam had his team dispatched and they finished in about 3.5 hours. They had one hiccup during install, but they resolved the issue and made it right. Everyone was respectful and polite. The end price was exactly what I was quoted. Happy to recommend.

They were very respectful of our home and our schedule, did an absolutely beautiful job — and communicated daily about what to expect. A plumbing water damage mishap to our finished lower level meant repairing the entire ceiling: skim, sand, re-texture, paint — plus removal and reinstallation of ceiling fans, a chandelier, can lights, speakers and vents. Gerid and the Home Drywall team also offered a very competitive price.
