Color Consultations
Choose With Confidence Instead of Guessing at the Paint Counter
Choosing color is the part of a painting project people lose the most sleep over, and the part a fan deck under fluorescent store lighting is worst at solving. We work through it in your rooms, in your light, against your floors and furniture.
How a Color Consultation Works
Fewer samples on the wall, more confidence in the choice.
To get a free estimate — and a color consultation if paint is part of the project — use our online form or call (612) 816-5333.

Schedule your consultation alongside your estimate. Send along any inspiration photos, fabric, flooring samples, or the three colors you’ve been going back and forth on for a month.
Walk the space
We look at the rooms in your actual light — north-facing, south-facing, morning and evening — and note the fixed elements you’re working around: flooring, cabinets, countertops, stone, trim.
Narrow the direction
Rather than starting from thousands of chips, we start from what the space and your taste rule out. Undertone is where most color choices go wrong, and it’s the first thing we sort out.
Build the palette
Wall colors, trim, ceilings, doors, and accent spaces are chosen to work as a set. A whole-home palette is what keeps a house feeling coherent as you move from room to room.
Choose sheens with the color
Flat, matte, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss — sheen changes how a color reads and how the surface cleans. It’s a functional decision, not a footnote.
Sample and confirm
Final candidates go on the wall in real samples and get looked at across a full day of light before anything gets ordered. Color changes character between 9am and 6pm.
Hand off to the crew
Your final selections are documented by room and surface and handed to the painting crew, so nothing gets lost between the decision and the first coat.
Why Work With a Color Consultant?
Repainting a room you got wrong costs more than the consultation did. More than that: the difference between a color that’s fine and one that makes the room is usually a small shift in undertone that’s hard to see on a two-inch chip and impossible to unsee on a wall.
When you work with our team, here’s what you get:
- High-quality craftsmanship, never from subcontractors.
Our own in-house employees complete every project. We invest in training our crews in trade technique, jobsite conduct and customer service, and we don’t hand your home to a rotating cast of subs.
- Lasting results you will love.
We stand behind our work in writing. If something isn’t right after we’ve gone, we come back and correct it — no argument about whose responsibility it was.
- Fair, transparent pricing.
Our standards are high and our pricing is straightforward. You get a written scope with the price attached, and options at different price points where they genuinely exist.
- Local knowledge that matters here.
Minnesota’s climate is hard on buildings. Freeze-thaw cycles, humid summers and long heating seasons all change what holds up. We’ve worked in this metro since 2007 and it shapes what we recommend.
- A reputation you can check yourself.
628+ Google reviews at a 4.8-star average, plus a long trail of repeat customers and referrals across the metro. Read them before you call us.

Color Consultations — Common Questions
Is the consultation free?
It’s included with painting projects we’re quoting. If you’d like a standalone consultation without painting work attached, call us and we’ll talk through the options.
Can you work with colors I've already picked?
Absolutely, and often that’s the whole job — you’ve narrowed it to two or three and want a second opinion from someone who’s seen those colors on a hundred walls.
Do you work with a specific paint brand?
We work across major professional lines and will recommend a product based on the surface and the room rather than a preferred supplier.

Junior and his crew were great to work with on our office redesign. They got us our estimate same day and gave a great price. The hardworking crew got the job done faster than I expected, and it also came out perfectly. We will be using him and his team again in the future.
I hired Home Drywall and Painting to finish my three-car garage starting from bare studs, and they did an outstanding job. They handled insulation, full sheetrock installation, mudding and taping, and painting — all in-house. What normally would take multiple contractors was completed by one company, which made the process smooth and efficient.
After my first contractor jerked me around for 2 weeks with excuses, the team at Home Drywall & Painting became my Plan B. Jessica took my call, sent me a proposal and had me booked next day. Adam had his team dispatched and they finished in about 3.5 hours. They had one hiccup during install, but they resolved the issue and made it right. Everyone was respectful and polite. The end price was exactly what I was quoted. Happy to recommend.
They were very respectful of our home and our schedule, did an absolutely beautiful job — and communicated daily about what to expect. A plumbing water damage mishap to our finished lower level meant repairing the entire ceiling: skim, sand, re-texture, paint — plus removal and reinstallation of ceiling fans, a chandelier, can lights, speakers and vents. Gerid and the Home Drywall team also offered a very competitive price.
