Basement Floor Coating

A Finished Floor That Doesn’t Fear Moisture

Basement slabs and moisture go together in Minnesota, which is exactly why coatings beat carpet down there: nothing to soak, harbor mildew or need tearing out after a water heater fails. The key is moisture testing before anything goes down — vapor pushing up through the slab is the one thing that defeats a basement coating.

What This Covers

What’s Included

Every project starts with a free on-site estimate and a written scope. Here’s what basement floor coating looks like when we do it:

To get started, use our online form or call (612) 816-5333.

  • Moisture testing first

We test the slab’s vapor emission before proposing a system — and spec a vapor-mitigating base coat when the numbers demand it.

  • Grinding and repair

The same diamond-ground prep as our garage floors, with cracks and control joints addressed.

  • Finished-space systems

Solid colors and flake blends that read as intentional finished flooring, with optional anti-slip texture.

  • Whole-basement coordination

Coated floors sequenced with our framing, insulation, drywall and paint — the entire basement finish under one roof.

Good Questions

Basement Floor Coating — Common Questions

Is a coating better than carpet or LVP in a basement?

For resilience, yes. A coated slab survives water events that write off carpet and swell some floating floors — mop it and move on. Area rugs add warmth where you want it, and remain replaceable.

What if my slab has moisture issues?

That’s what the testing is for. Moderate vapor gets a mitigating base coat rated for it; active liquid water means fixing drainage before any floor finish — and we’ll tell you that instead of coating over a problem.

Is the floor cold?

The coating doesn’t change the slab’s temperature, but pairing it with rim joist and wall insulation — which we also do — changes how the whole basement feels.

Junior and his crew were great to work with on our office redesign. They got us our estimate same day and gave a great price. The hardworking crew got the job done faster than I expected, and it also came out perfectly. We will be using him and his team again in the future.

I hired Home Drywall and Painting to finish my three-car garage starting from bare studs, and they did an outstanding job. They handled insulation, full sheetrock installation, mudding and taping, and painting — all in-house. What normally would take multiple contractors was completed by one company, which made the process smooth and efficient.

After my first contractor jerked me around for 2 weeks with excuses, the team at Home Drywall & Painting became my Plan B. Jessica took my call, sent me a proposal and had me booked next day. Adam had his team dispatched and they finished in about 3.5 hours. They had one hiccup during install, but they resolved the issue and made it right. Everyone was respectful and polite. The end price was exactly what I was quoted. Happy to recommend.

They were very respectful of our home and our schedule, did an absolutely beautiful job — and communicated daily about what to expect. A plumbing water damage mishap to our finished lower level meant repairing the entire ceiling: skim, sand, re-texture, paint — plus removal and reinstallation of ceiling fans, a chandelier, can lights, speakers and vents. Gerid and the Home Drywall team also offered a very competitive price.
