Soundproofing for Twin Cities Homes

Quiet Rooms, Home Theaters, and Walls That Stay Put

Soundproofing is a construction problem, not a product you buy. Foam panels on a wall change how a room sounds inside it; stopping sound from crossing the wall takes mass, decoupling, damping and absorption working together — which is drywall work, and it’s what we do.

Step by Step

Our Soundproofing Process

Sound leaks through the weakest path. We find it first.

Acoustic absorption panels — one layer of a full assembly
  1. Contact us

Tell us what you’re hearing and where — footsteps from above, a shared wall with the neighbors, a theater room that carries into the bedrooms, an office that needs privacy.

  2. Diagnose the path

We assess the assembly in person. Sound travels through structure, shared framing, ductwork, outlets, and door gaps, and treating the wrong path is how people spend real money and hear no difference.

  3. Review the estimate and target

You get a written scope and a realistic expectation. We’ll tell you what a given assembly will and won’t achieve rather than promising silence and delivering “better.”

  4. Build the assembly

Depending on the goal: resilient channel or sound clips and hat channel to decouple, staggered or double-stud framing, mineral wool in the cavity, and mass-loaded layers.

  5. Add mass and damping

Double layers of drywall with a viscoelastic damping compound between them, seams offset. This combination outperforms almost anything else per dollar and per inch of wall thickness.

  6. Seal every flanking path

Acoustic sealant at perimeters, backer boxes behind outlets, treatment at door and duct penetrations. A well-built wall with an unsealed gap performs like an unsealed gap.

  7. Finish and test

We tape, texture and paint the finished assembly so it looks like any other wall in your house — then walk the room with you and listen to the result together.

The Honest Version

Why Hire a Twin Cities Soundproofing Contractor?

The internet is full of soundproofing products that do very little and a handful of assemblies that do a great deal. Knowing the difference — and being able to build the second kind, then finish it so the room still looks finished — is what you’re actually hiring.

When you work with our team, here’s what you get:

  • High-quality craftsmanship, never from subcontractors.

Our own in-house employees complete every project. We invest in training our crews in trade technique, jobsite conduct and customer service, and we don’t hand your home to a rotating cast of subs.

  • Lasting results you will love.

We stand behind our work in writing. If something isn’t right after we’ve gone, we come back and correct it — no argument about whose responsibility it was.

  • Fair, transparent pricing.

Our standards are high and our pricing is straightforward. You get a written scope with the price attached, and options at different price points where they genuinely exist.

  • Local knowledge that matters here.

Minnesota’s climate is hard on buildings. Freeze-thaw cycles, humid summers and long heating seasons all change what holds up. We’ve worked in this metro since 2007 and it shapes what we recommend.

  • A reputation you can check yourself.

Good Questions

Sound Proofing — Common Questions

Will foam panels soundproof my room?

No. Acoustic foam absorbs reflections inside a room, which makes the room sound better but does almost nothing to stop sound from passing through a wall. Blocking transfer takes mass and decoupling.

How much quieter will it actually be?

It depends entirely on the assembly and the existing construction. A properly decoupled, double-layer wall with damping compound makes a dramatic, obvious difference. We’ll set a specific expectation for your project instead of a vague one.

Can you soundproof without rebuilding the wall?

Sometimes we can add a damped layer over existing drywall and seal the flanking paths, which helps meaningfully. For serious isolation — a theater, a shared wall, a music room — opening the assembly is usually the honest answer.

Junior and his crew were great to work with on our office redesign. They got us our estimate same day and gave a great price. The hardworking crew got the job done faster than I expected, and it also came out perfectly. We will be using him and his team again in the future.

I hired Home Drywall and Painting to finish my three-car garage starting from bare studs, and they did an outstanding job. They handled insulation, full sheetrock installation, mudding and taping, and painting — all in-house. What normally would take multiple contractors was completed by one company, which made the process smooth and efficient.

After my first contractor jerked me around for 2 weeks with excuses, the team at Home Drywall & Painting became my Plan B. Jessica took my call, sent me a proposal and had me booked next day. Adam had his team dispatched and they finished in about 3.5 hours. They had one hiccup during install, but they resolved the issue and made it right. Everyone was respectful and polite. The end price was exactly what I was quoted. Happy to recommend.

They were very respectful of our home and our schedule, did an absolutely beautiful job — and communicated daily about what to expect. A plumbing water damage mishap to our finished lower level meant repairing the entire ceiling: skim, sand, re-texture, paint — plus removal and reinstallation of ceiling fans, a chandelier, can lights, speakers and vents. Gerid and the Home Drywall team also offered a very competitive price.
